火!

hmm rather randomly, considering we are in middle of exams, the fire brigade showed up. Apparently there was no better time for the kids to learn about fire safety than today. All rather comical as you can imagine. Surprise fire drill that was scheduled at 15:30, apparently. Kids evacuating in typical high school fashion of teachers screaming that this could be real ( but tuck your shirts in) and students more concerned about their hair in the wind. Eventually kids all lined up in classes out on the field and standing at attention to bow at the chief fire man person. Big long drama about what you should and shouldn't do during fire. This may come as a surprise to you but from what I could hear you shouldn't jump from 4th story windows as you may 'hurt' yourself.

Next we had a demo. I don't know if this happens at other schools or not but a small fire was lit and then students had to attempt to put it out. The kids choosen were all boys because as the chief said 'girls would have great difficulty holding the extinguisher and aiming'. This was particularly amusing as most of the boys struggled to do so...but after much ganbarre-ing they could do the sucess. Good to know as we were also told that it was possible that the fire brigade may take some time to reach the school due to traffic. All in all comforting to know we are in safe hands.
