weird thing just happened. I went to a Japanese institution and left not feeling rage. Let me tell you about it. So had to post stamps to Tokyo so popped over to PO and a asked for one 80yen stamp and 2x350yen stamps. Man just got them and didn't try and repeat everything I said in 'English' but just the word 'stamp' as if I hadn't just said it in Japanese. So far so little annoyance. That done I was walking out and some lady in uniform is coming toward me. Did she want me or was I in front of some Japanese person? No she wanted to talk to me! Not only talk but offer me a ...... new cash card/credit card hybrid that they were now promoting. NEVER in all my time have I been offered a credit card. I've tried to get one many times without success, but with a lot of stress and no reason as to why I'm being rejected.

Reminded me of a lovely incident I had at Saga Bank when I first arrived. Ahh Saga 'Bank'. I went in there and asked about a credit card. Lot's of the regular hummming and hahing and finally the manager was called to answer such a tricky question and it went something like this...

M: No.
R: Why?
M: You are gaijin
R: Yes. But I have been in Japan for 2 years and I now have a 3 year visa.
M: You may leave the country without paying.
R: No...I won't. I work for Kencho. It's a yearly contract.
M: Hmmmm no.
R: Ok, well then can I please apply for an international cash card. (I've had one in Japan).
M: We are very small bank. We don't have such a thing.
R: Well what should I do when I go overseas
M: You should apply for a credit card.
R: (exits building rapidly).

So there I was in the PO being offered, nay chased, to apply! I had a feeling of ...less hate. What a nice day.
